A week ago, one of my good friends was featured on Sephora’s Instagram as the guest stylist. I remember seeing her pop up on my feed and just squealing with joy to see one of my friends working with a huge company. Now, I’m no stranger to being cyberbullied so I’m somewhat use to it (that’s a whole other issue that should be addressed) but she wasn’t. People were really being nasty just down right disgusting. Picking her apart. Dissecting her. Objectifying her. Insulting her.
FOR WHAT?!
She was laughing it off but I know from personal experience that we often put a brave face but it can definitely hurt. It’s only human. To stir up such negative comments….even the most confident can get a bit frazzled. I reassured her that they’re hiding behind their screens clicking away while Sephora called HER up to be a guest on their Instagram. If they were really doing something with themselves & lives then they would be featured but they’re not. It’s easy to hate. But harder to put yourself out there.
Dealing with cyber bullying…and seeing my talented friends deal with it. I had ENOUGH. I needed to talk about it. This will be one post of many. I’m going to make it my business to address this new sad cultural phenomenon. Here’s the post I wrote on my tumblr:
I will legitimately never understand why some people feel the need to go on other people’s blogs, instagrams, facebooks etc and post their unsolicited negative thoughts. That’s like walking into stranger’s dress fitting and shouting “you look fat.” Ummm….ok? who the fuck are you?
If you don’t like something then move on. Why would you ever give attention to something or someone that you feel is beneath you? That doesn’t make sense.
I think it’s great to have discussions and dialogue. Because really we aren’t going to agree on everything. But once you start personal attacks…wtf? Why? how does that improve the quality of your life? It literally shows how miserable you are as a person. Happy people don’t leave negative comments on other people’s blogs, images etc because they’re doing shit that makes them happy so they don’t have time for that.
For the record: When you call someone fat, ugly, fake etc really that is simply a projection on how you feel about yourself. What you say says more about you than the person you’re slandering.
Literally this is you:
It’s so easy to hate. The opposite of “love” is not hate. It’s indifference.
“Love me or hate me, both are in my favor…If you love me, I’ll always be in your heart…If you hate me, I’ll always be in your mind.”
